Role Description

T1F is building its team of Loan Underwriters to vet and approve investors seeking financing and the loans we intend to extend to them. You will be part of a collaborative team supporting investors throughout the application, underwriting and loan funding process. You will assess the individual and overall risk of a potential borrower, property and loan and are ultimately responsible for approving or denying mortgage loans.

The primary function of an Underwriter is to perform a detailed credit underwriting to ensure that our business purpose loans meet credit policy and regulatory requirements.

Strong producers and leaders in this role have tremendous opportunity for growth into management or other teams within the organization as we scale.

  • Underwrite Business Purpose mortgage loans in compliance with credit guidelines and requirements
  • Review loan files for completeness and creditworthiness
  • Collaborate with the Loan Expert and Closing team to identify any missing loan documentation and generate credit conditions lists for applicants
  • Train and mentor new Loan Underwriters as we expand
  • Keep all documents organized and itemized in internal drives and proprietary systems
  • Manage high deal flow pipeline and prioritize work to ensure loans close on time and with a high degree of accuracy
  • Identify, report and escalate any suspected fraudulent activity to the appropriate management as necessary
  • Stay up to date with the most current company underwriting guidelines, policies, procedures and workplays as well as federal and state regulatory requirements to ensure compliance at all times
  • Review and take ownership of all loan files and borrower details prior to approving loans for closing and submission to our Closing team

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in advanced quality control
  • At least 1 year experience in the mortgage industry as a Loan Processor, Underwriter, Transaction Coordinator, or Analyst
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Disciplined, extreme attention to detail, and obsessive about quality control
  • Ability to make tough decisions focusing on the creditworthiness of borrowers, properties and loans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong people skills; Ability to convey needs and build rapport with borrowers and 3rd party vendors
  • Empathic, active listening
  • Meticulous pipeline management
  • Effective time management and task prioritization
  • Comfortable in unstructured environments
  • Politely persistent
  • Technologically literate
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly
  • Love critical thinking and problem solving
  • Must work well in a (remote) team environment
