Description
This is a remote position. However, candidates must reside within approximately a one hour commute of Alexandria, VA. Telework is subject to change based on customer needs/ requirements.
The supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring staff performance meets contract requirements, and maintaining consistent quality and productivity standards. This role provides leadership, guidance, and technical support to team members while ensuring all work aligns with USPTO policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Manage a production workforce of approximately 20 employees.
- Maintain oversight of personnel, communications, and reporting.
- Assist the Team Lead/Trainer in training and ensuring staff are properly prepared for assigned tasks, including support of ongoing training initiatives and skill development.
- Assist the Quality Inspectors by performing ANSI-based sampling to verify output accuracy and deliver immediate quality feedback to staff.
- Serve as part of the Special Review Team to handle difficult, complex, or exception cases/applications.
- Provide subject-matter expertise and conduct additional case reviews, including complex tables, formula-heavy specifications, or multi-part representative figures.
- Oversee daily workforce and workload management, ensuring attendance, productivity, quality, and adherence to code of conduct and performance standards.
- Coach and counsel staff and administer progressive disciplinary process as needed, adhering to proper documentation requirements.
- Perform production tasks as workload may require.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 10 years of related experience is preferred
- Previous patent application processing experience highly desirable
- Ability to communicate both in writing and orally in English
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or similar applications/tools
- Ability to successfully complete corporate background investigations, including credit and criminal checks
- Ability to successfully complete government background investigation to obtain/maintain a public trust/clearance approval
Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office setting. The role requires periods of standing, walking, and sitting, as well as the ability to communicate in person and by telephone. Regular use of a computer is required throughout the workday.
