Role Description
ECS is seeking a highly skilled ETL Engineer to support the management and maintenance of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information Technology (OIT) Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) infrastructure. As an ETL Engineer, you will support ETL operations and maintenance across a variety of legacy VA IT health and benefits systems, including the Veterans Health Information System Technology Architecture (VistA). This role also manages data models and database systems, optimizing storage, retrieval, and implementation processes. In addition to transforming complex, unstructured data into standardized healthcare constructs, you will lead database architecture efforts, resolve advanced data issues, and drive performance enhancements across our analytics and reporting platforms.

ETL Development & Data Modeling
- Develop, test, and maintain ETL pipelines that extract, transform, and load data from multiple healthcare systems into structured datasets.
- Write complex SQL scripts to normalize and map data into healthcare constructs.
- Build reusable and modular ETL components to support multiple data use cases with an emphasis on scalability and performance.

Standardization & Value Set Mapping
- Collaborate with the development teams to define data hierarchies required for measure definitions.
- Overcome challenges associated with inconsistent data formats and non-standardized healthcare data models.
- Support the ongoing definition, validation, and enhancement of clinical quality measures through clean, standardized datasets.

Reporting & Business Intelligence Integration
- Ensure ETL processes support accurate data delivery for business intelligence tools such as: SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services); SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) Cubes; and, Excel Templates integrated with SSAS Cubes.
- Assist report developers in troubleshooting data quality or mapping issues arising from backend pipelines.

Cross-collaboration with Functional Teams
- Partner with developers using VueJS and libraries such as: Bootstrap (UI layout/design); Font Awesome (icons); Raphaël (SVG drawings); Google Charts (data visualizations); and, jQuery and UnderscoreJS (utility libraries).
- Ensure data pipelines align with UI requirements and performance needs of interactive dashboards or data visualization tools.

Quality Assurance, Documentation, and Optimization
- Write and maintain detailed technical documentation of ETL processes, mappings, and transformations.
- Conduct regular performance tuning and optimization of SQL queries and ETL jobs to minimize latency and maximize data throughput.
- Participate in code reviews and quality assurance checks to maintain high standards of data integrity and process reliability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's with 10+ years (or commensurate experience)
- Demonstrated advanced understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure)

- Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000
