Job Description

This role involves leading investment accounting activities related to derivative instruments in a complex investment environment. Perform and lead investment accounting activities related to derivative instruments, including futures, options, swaps, and other complex investment products. Independently review and critically evaluate hedge effectiveness testing including regression analysis and critical terms match assessments. Design, execute and document regression testing methodology, assumptions, thresholds, and conclusions including formal hedge documentation. Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules related to derivatives as part of the monthly and quarterly close process. Provide monthly accounting and reporting for the derivative portfolio, in accordance with US GAAP and Statutory standards. Conduct detailed investment analytics and financial analysis to support management reporting and decision-making. Prepare derivative-related financial statements and disclosures. Partner with Investment Management, Treasury, Risk, and other Finance teams to understand transactions and resolve issues. Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements, system enhancements, and controls. Provide assistance on technical accounting research and guidance on new or complex derivative transactions. Assist internal audit with controls testing and external auditors ensuring SOX compliance. Mentor and provide guidance to other analysts on the Investment Accounting team.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform, review, validate, and challenge advanced statistical and regression-based hedge effectiveness analyses.
  • Experience reviewing quantitative analysis prepared by external consultants.
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts such as correlation, R-squared, p-values, confidence intervals, multicollinearity, residual analysis, and model stability over time.
  • Ability to translate quantitative findings into clear, defensible accounting conclusions.
  • Strong knowledge of finance and accounting principles, with experience in investment accounting and derivative instruments.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and Statutory accounting, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced analytical tool proficiency, with hands-on experience using Excel and at least one statistical or data analysis tool.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong working knowledge of Excel.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Advanced degree or professional designation such as CPA preferred.
  • Experience accounting for derivatives within an insurance company or large financial institution.
  • Familiarity with investment accounting systems, general ledger platforms, and financial reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with AI tools a plus.
