Job Description

• Partner with team leads on newsroom planning, outlining priority newsroom projects and working across editorial, product, and tech teams to manage resourcing. • Help shape the Executive Editor’s agenda based on the most important work across the Newsroom. • Facilitate cohesive communication and collaboration across the Newsroom leadership team and with leadership stakeholders, ensuring unified direction and effective decision-making. • Manage calendars, including coordinating meetings with participants, resolving conflicts, and generally managing the Executive Editor’s daily schedule. • Prepare drafts of general correspondence, department communications, reports and presentations. • Arrange travel, manage expense report processing and administer department credit card. • Coordinate staff and personal communication for the Executive Editor, including initial drafts of notes, developing presentations and responding to requests in a timely manner. • Help coordinate guests and focus for Inside The Athletic episodes. • Coordinate closely with Operations and other teams, especially those who plan staff summits and other major initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of The Athletic and enthusiasm for sports journalism.
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in an administrative role providing support to senior executives.
  • Impeccable overall judgment and discretion, especially as it relates to organizational operations.
  • Experience with G Suite products and applications, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Google Slides.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
  • The ability to build trust and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds, teams, and working styles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and in person.
  • Adaptability, and an eagerness to give, receive, and act on feedback.
  • Willingness to travel 4+ times a year.
