Job Description
• Lead trading, origination, and market strategy across western U.S. power markets, including, but not limited to CAISO, SPP, ERCOT, WECC.
• Monitor market fundamentals, regulatory developments, and stakeholder processes that could impact expansion efforts in western U.S. power markets.
• Work with utilities and market operators to submit and manage any required studies and interconnection applications.
• Lead renewable strategy and carbon-free energy procurement in support of Switchs clean energy goals.
• Provide detailed reporting of ongoing western U.S. power supply and sustainability activity.
• Track positions, exposures, and settlements to ensure trading compliance and accuracy.
• Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that provide insights into financial results, trends, and key metrics.
• Monitor power price data in existing and new campus locations and track industry news and events that could impact power markets.
• Work with cross departmental teams to create load forecasts for new and existing locations and develop tracking mechanisms and tools to continually monitor and refine load forecasts to support power supply activities.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to help develop transmission and distribution plans for new locations.
• Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed to support business units with financial data and insights.
• Research the cost effectiveness and potential of new technologies for supply and demand-side energy resources.
• Build relationships with industry stakeholders, such as utilities, regional power planning agencies, renewable project developers, project investors, etc.
Job Requirements
- Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Minimum five years related work experience.
- In-depth understanding of Western U.S. power markets.
- Ability to originate and negotiate cost-effective, creative energy solutions.
- Excellent analytical, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, and organizational skills, with the ability to resolve problems efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate, think creatively, and drive business teams to expediently develop executable projects.
- Proven history of collaboration, problem-solving, and communication that supports overall team success.
- Substantial experience negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs).
- Strong understanding of electricity market design; federal and state regulatory rules; incentives related to energy storage; tariff structures; renewable energy; and renewable-energy incentives.
