Role Description
This level is intended to perform as an assistant to a Drivetrain Specialist. The Advanced Drivetrain Technician, under specific direction from the Drivetrain Specialist, provides Major Component Repair (“MCR”) services at renewable energy projects, including but not limited to inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs, as needed. The Advanced Drivetrain Technician will be expected to travel for extended periods of time working on EDF power solutions projects as needed. While traveling on behalf of EDF power solutions, this role is expected to always represent our organization and core values.
Required Training: Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend mandatory four (4) week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Assist with MCR specialized services
- Assist Drivetrain Specialist with crane calling and rigging procedures & qualifications.
- Work independently from time to time while performing all aspects of large corrective repairs and removal and replacement of major components.
- Oversee the safe operation of EDFps and contractor employees during the removal & replacement (“R&R”) of major components, and large corrective in-situ repairs of renewable energy assets.
- Assist with projects requiring special skills, by acquiring and maintaining skills in certain areas:
- R&R of major components.
- In-situ repair of major components.
- Development of tooling and fixtures to perform large corrective repairs.
- Travel to other sites to support MCR work as needed.
- Assist with Developing, writing, and training work procedures and control instructions for heavy lift operations with the assistance of Technical Writer.
- Assist Drivetrain Specialist with quality control during the removal & replacement (R&R) of major components and large corrective in-situ repairs.
- Provide high quality workmanship with the goal of increasing safety, performance, and efficiency.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
80% of the time is in the field with the other 15% doing scheduled training, paperwork, and meetings. An undefined amount of the field work will be performed at EDFps contracted locations which will require travel. Traveling work rotations are generally 5 weeks followed by one week at home. This position must be capable of working independently but generally works with other MCR technicians.
This role will be provided a company vehicle for official company use only (service truck) during their assigned shift in which they carry the required tools to perform repairs and/or maintenance. This position may work in extreme weather conditions and abnormal working hours, including nights from time to time.
The employee must work within the budget constraints as authorized by the Executive Team, while successfully following all policies and procedures related to employees’ fiscal responsibilities in doing the day-to-day job.
Qualifications
- Advanced Wind Technician or minimum 1 year wind energy or industrial maintenance experience
- High school or equivalent; or up to one year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successfully complete applicable safety and technical training program for Advanced Wind Technician.
- Able to demonstrate basic computer knowledge.
- Able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to comply with EDF power solutions’s Safety & Quality policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Good oral and written communication skills, including basic functional knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read & comprehend schematic drawings.
- Ability to work at heights, including climbing up and descending towers of various heights.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with and provide hands-on training to other technicians.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including cold, rain, wind, etc.
- Mechanical, electrical, and controls aptitude as expressed by prior performance of some of the responsibilities described above.
- Able to provide proof of a current driver’s license and clean driving record, to operate company vehicles (service trucks) both on site as well as on public roads and highways.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and use his/her hands. The position will require travel, so the employee in this position must be able to successfully accommodate air and ground travel.

Salary Range
The full pay range for this role is $28.65 - $47.74 per hour, and the good faith estimated starting pay for this position upon hire is $35.00 to $42.00 per hour. We generally base our salary decisions on factors including but not limited to, relevant work and leadership experience, education, demonstrated performance, internal equity, and in some cases, geographic location.
