Position: Project Engineer

Location: Fergus Falls, Minnesota (or other Customer Service center, remote work in the service territory could be available)

Description:

In this role, the Project Engineer will lead technical and engineering aspects for developing and bringing through construction new and existing generation facilities including different technologies used across the industry.

 Some of the details of the day-to-day include:

  • Review and help design new generation facilities.
  • Strategize and recommend generation projects to meet our resource planning needs.
  • Maximize project efficiency while balancing operational, maintenance and engineering requirements including collaboration with vendors and consultants.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement and long-term planning mindset to ensure projects utilize emerging and innovative technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with new and existing electrical grid requirements for generator assets.

Qualifications:

We’re seeking a Project Engineer with strong technical expertise—particularly in modern power systems—and the ability to manage both detailed engineering tasks and big‑picture project goals. Ideal candidates bring experience overseeing complex engineering projects, meeting deadlines, and ensuring long‑term value.

Success in this role requires excellent communication and collaboration. The Project Engineer will lead safety and environmental compliance efforts and champion advanced power technologies and grid‑reliability improvements throughout project development and execution.

Candidates must be able to quickly learn and apply accounting and purchasing practices to meet budget and schedule requirements. A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent experience) is required, with knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural systems used in power generation. Experience with substation operation, design, maintenance, and broader electrical grid infrastructure is strongly preferred.

    • The expected base compensation for this role is $69,000 - $105,000 annually. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
