Role Description

Convergint is looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and managed electronic/physical security design professional who, under limited supervision, executes, and coordinates the design engineering tasks for moderate to high complexity projects and for systems such as access control, video surveillance systems, intruder alarms, intercoms, and other technologies. This colleague will be providing design engineering support to customers and projects across our vertical teams and our CTC’s and will be responsible for the delivery of these services and support for the projects assigned to him/her.

What you’ll do with “Our Training and Your Experience”

  • Provides design or drawing assistance for projects during the development and as-built stages of the engineered drawings.
  • Works on projects with varying levels of complexity including the moderately complex design projects.
  • Obtains electronic plans from engineers/architects/owners.
  • Obtains design drawings from sprinkler and mechanical contractors.
  • Creates engineered drawings (AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Prepares record drawings and O&M manuals according to project requirements.
  • Works from rough sketches, schematics, and verbal instructions.
  • Utilizes and maintains Convergint project design, documentation and submittal standards.
  • Ensures adherence to industry standards and codes as required.
  • Supports and maintains Convergint design standards.
  • Applies intermediate and advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, electrical and fabrication problems.
  • Reviews scope, defined product specification, application and electrical requirements for code compliance and AHJ Requirements.
  • Participates in internal design review meetings as coordinated by the Project Managers.
  • Participates in project turnover meetings with both sales and project team.
  • Provides project team with all documentation, programming graphics, etc. according to Convergint standards and project requirements.
  • Preparation and procurement of all project material purchases.
  • Obtains project design information as required from vendors, insurance carriers, owners, consultants and AHJ as required.
  • Obtains and facilitates all project permits.
  • Communicates all design progress, committed completion dates, design scope revisions, and associated costs to the Project Managers.
  • Discusses all anticipated overtime requirements with the Project Managers.
  • Performs change-order work only with formal authorization to proceed.
  • Assists the project team with change-order pricing.
  • Participates in initial site surveys and/or walkthroughs.
  • Prepares submittal packages according to project requirements or Convergint standards.
  • Revises submittals as required to gain approval.
  • Provides operational support for the sales phase of projects when needed.
  • Work may include providing training and work direction for other designers.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Qualifications

  • Excellent Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent Bluebeam skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to solve problems and be proactive with tasks.
  • Customer Focus – Maintaining awareness of and seeking to meet the needs and wants of the customer.

Requirements

  • Education Requirements:
    • Minimum two-year technical degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering desirable.
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Minimum of three years of previous design, engineering, field service or project management experience in the electronic security industry.
    • Minimum three years’ experience with AutoCAD required.
  • Certifications & Licenses:
    • Local, federal and industry-specific licenses as required - Security.
