What you'll do...
You’ll partner closely with architects, product owners, and accounting stakeholders to ensure our systems are accurate, resilient, scalable, and adaptable—especially during peak tax seasons.
We are growing our technology team and seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build and optimize critical tax systems. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain software components that support core H&R Block business applications, while helping modernize our technology platform.
Day to day, you'll...
- Design, develop, and maintain software features and services using .NET 8, C#, Azure DevOps, and Azure cloud services
- Support year-over-year product functionality, enhancements, and modernization efforts
- Create and execute unit tests, resolve defects, and champion strong testing practices across the stack
- Participate in planning and execution of the product’s strategic technical direction, including performance, reliability, and modernization improvements
- Lead and participate in technical design reviews and code reviews, using automation and AI-assisted tooling where it improves quality and consistency
- Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, and release practices (build, deploy, rollback, post-deploy validation) using Azure DevOps
- Design for operability, ensuring monitoring, alerting, and observability are in place (e.g., Datadog), and contribute to actionable runbooks and playbooks
What you'll bring to the team...
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including senior-level ownership of production systems
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS acceptable)
- Experience with cloud-native application patterns
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex business and functional requirements into clear, practical technical solutions
- Proven ability to collaborate across teams, time zones and disciplines
It would be even better if you also had...
- Experience implementing or optimizing Kubernetes
- Experience designing or consuming gRPC-based services
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot and Copilot code review, paired with strong engineering judgment and disciplined testing practices

Pay Range Information
The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.

$101,200.00 - $161,900.00/Yr.
