Job Description
Role Description
The Field Applications Engineer is a key technical expert responsible for helping customers successfully deploy and use ConnectDER’s MSA products. In this role, you’ll work closely with installers, partners, and AHJs to troubleshoot issues, provide hands-on and remote support, and ensure installations run smoothly.
You’ll also serve as a trusted technical resource by educating stakeholders on ConnectDER’s MSA product line, translating complex concepts into clear guidance, and contributing to technical documentation and standards research.
Duties include:
- Customer Support & Resolution: Serve as second-tier technical support, diagnosing and resolving complex customer inquiries promptly via multiple channels (phone, email, chat, ticket system), and providing detailed reporting such as root cause analysis.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Consulting: Support and engage a wide range of external stakeholders (solar installers, utilities, inspectors, etc.) by translating complex technical issues into actions and strategic product recommendations.
- Field Operations & Compliance: Perform in-person field support as needed, evaluate requirements for field wiring and product compatibility, and maintain expertise in utility technical requirements (e.g., service and interconnection rules) to advocate the company's position.
- Product & Process Improvement: Collaborate cross-functionally to relay customer concerns and feedback, recommending process improvements and best practices to enhance overall product quality and user experience.
- Training & Education: Deliver technical training sessions (virtual and in-person) for installers, partners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- On-Call Availability: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends and holidays, to support customers.
Qualifications
- NABCEP Certification
- A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in customer facing field operations, construction, or related electrical or solar fields.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.
- Working knowledge of relevant industry standards – NEMA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, UL, etc.
- Experience troubleshooting systems, products, electrical designs, etc.
- Strong executor that can push through obstacles and challenges to get to the finish line while maintaining impeccable quality and integrity.
- Successful track record for problem solving, idea generation, and program execution.
- An ability to listen - and translate what you are hearing into solutions - for both the customer and the company.

- Experience developing technical training
- Licensed electrician
