Role Description
We are seeking a SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. This position will work directly with a critical backend data repository used to provide statistical and other information in response to legitimate and reasonable requests for the VA’s Legal practice organization. As a SQL Database Administrator you will be responsible for the entire repository by maintaining data integrity and stewardship to include knowledge on subsidiary APIs, backups, secure retrieval mechanisms, and security.
Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, and maintain database systems
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies for optimization
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with internal and external standards
- Support and maintenance of new or existing APIs consumed by GCLAWS Web application and any encompassed organizations
- Perform regular backups and recovery procedures to safeguard data
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions
- Collaborate with developers and IT teams to support application integration
- Document database configurations, procedures, and policies
- Data retention support where needed for upcoming initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a database administrator
- Hands-on experience with C#, ASP.Net, MS Azure, SQL, MySQL
- Strong knowledge working with integrations and APIs
- Strong knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
- Familiarity with backup and recovery tools, performance tuning, and monitoring utilities
- Understanding of data privacy and protection regulations
