Role Description

The Director of Accounting will lead a distributed team across the U.S. and international locations, overseeing General Accounting, Revenue Accounting, and Accounts Payable. This role is responsible for building scalable accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and transparency in financial reporting, and preparing the organization for public-company readiness.

You will partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Legal, Tax, Product, and Engineering, to drive process improvements, implement automation, and strengthen internal controls. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision with operational rigor, leading a high-performing team while scaling processes for sustainable growth. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on organizational finance and to shape a best-in-class accounting function.

Accountabilities:

  • Set and execute the multi-year strategy for the Accounting function, establishing a scalable operating model aligned with company growth and public-company readiness.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, including managers, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and leadership development.
  • Own the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, as well as recurring and non-recurring accounting and accounts payable processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and leverage automation, including AI-enabled solutions, to enhance efficiency.
  • Strengthen internal controls, SOX compliance, and audit preparedness to support regulatory requirements and public-company readiness.
  • Partner on strategic initiatives, ensuring new products, revenue models, and partnerships are operationalized in a compliant, scalable manner.

Qualifications

  • 10–15+ years of accounting experience, including public accounting firm and publicly traded company experience.
  • Proven experience leading distributed and/or international accounting teams, building scalable and high-performing organizations.
  • Strong operational accounting background with a track record of process improvements and system implementations; experience with Netsuite preferred.
  • Deep understanding of internal controls and SOX compliance.
  • Technical proficiency in US GAAP; CPA preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functionally.
  • Strategic thinker with operational rigor and the ability to scale processes for long-term organizational success.
