Role Description
The Business Intelligence Engineer will serve as Medefy’s BI subject matter expert within the Data team. This role owns the discovery, design, development, and governance of Business Intelligence data and processes across the organization. This position bridges business strategy and technical implementation ensuring that business reporting needs are translated into scalable, secure, and reliable analytics infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Experience leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning concepts in analytics architecture and reporting.
- Advanced SQL across Snowflake, SQL Server, and Postgres.
- Strong dimensional modeling experience (star schema, data marts).
- Experience with dbt and modern ELT/analytics engineering practices.
- Experience designing BI architecture and reporting ecosystems.
- Experience supporting embedded reporting tools.
- Healthcare, claims, eligibility, or HIPAA-compliant data experience preferred.
- Python or scripting experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
Requirements
- Lead discovery sessions with Product, Finance, Care Operations, Sales, and Leadership.
- Translate business questions into structured data requirements.
- Define and standardize data definitions.
- Maintain analytics documentation and metric dictionary.
- Identify data gaps and propose collection strategies.
- Own analytics data storage strategy (primarily Snowflake).
- Design and maintain dimensional models and data marts.
- Determine appropriate data storage across Snowflake, SQL Server, and Postgres.
- Define governance standards for reporting schemas.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.
- Evaluate and select BI tools for internal and external reporting.
- Own BI Embedded architecture.
- Design customer-facing reporting solutions.
- Drive consolidation of reporting into Snowflake as the single source of truth.
- Support and maintain reporting APIs and analytics applications.
- Build and maintain analytics pipelines using dbt and ELT processes.
- Develop transformations to support reporting use cases.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering on data transport strategy.
- Define instrumentation needs for new product features.
- Support reverse ETL and data sync requirements.
- Define role-based access models in Snowflake.
- Reduce over-privileged access and improve audit posture.
- Implement testing and monitoring on analytics models.
- Support Data Reliability Index (DRI) improvement initiatives.
- Serve as BI subject matter expert across the organization.
- Guide teams toward self-service analytics best practices.
- Improve analytics literacy across departments.
- Partner with Engineering on event tracking improvements.
