Job Description

Actuarial Intern | 100% Remote (WFH) Opportunity

General Summary

The Actuarial Intern position will support the EMPLOYERS actuarial function through hands-on experience with workers’ compensation pricing, reserving, and analytical projects. This internship is designed for students who are interested in pursuing an actuarial career and want meaningful exposure to workers’ compensation insurance, actuarial techniques, and data-driven decision making.

Interns will participate in structured learning sessions led by members of the Actuarial team, complete a capstone project selected from current actuarial priorities, and present findings to actuarial leadership and stakeholders at the end of the program. The internship will be fully remote and will run approximately 10 to 12 weeks between May and August.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support actuarial analysis related to pricing, reserving, or modeling.
  • Compile, validate, and analyze data to support actuarial workflows.
  • Assist with developing exhibits, updating models, and preparing presentations.
  • Participate in actuarial learning sessions covering workers’ compensation concepts, actuarial methods, and company practices.
  • Complete a capstone project aligned with departmental needs and present results to actuarial leadership.
  • Communicate progress and findings to the Actuarial Manager and mentor.
  • Demonstrate initiative in learning about EMPLOYERS and the workers’ compensation industry, consistent with Analyst expectations.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Preferred:
  • Passage of at least one actuarial exam.
  • Exposure to R, SQL, Python, or other analytical tools.
  • Interest in workers’ compensation insurance and actuarial career paths.

Education

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, or related field.

Work Environment

  • Remote: This position is a fully remote (work‑from‑home) opportunity.
  • Candidates must be currently located in the United States and authorized to work without sponsorship.
  • A suitable home workspace that is private and free from distractions is required.
  • Expected Work Hours: Work schedules are designed to meet both the needs of the role and the organization and may be adjusted as business needs evolve.
  • Travel: Possible travel to off‑site locations may be required for meetings, as needed.
