Role Description

This is a very rare and exciting opportunity for a Market Facing Middle Market Underwriter to join a highly reputable industry leader, to assist with the continued expansion into the Commercial Package marketplace. The ideal candidate would work remotely and travel throughout the Pittsburgh, PA region. This position does not offer a company vehicle but mileage reimbursement is offered.

  • Develop and manage a local territory for new business opportunities in Commercial Package, Auto, Workers Compensation, and Umbrella.
  • Drive profitability and growth by identifying new business, negotiating renewals, and maintaining strong customer and producer relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Sales Team and support product development through market intelligence and departmental projects.
  • Ensure compliance with legal/regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Middle Market experience is required.
  • Typically has a minimum of 5+ years experience underwriting commercial package accounts.
  • Must have knowledge of ISO ratings and forms.
  • Experience developing agency relationships and profitable business.
  • Extensive knowledge of Commercial Multi-line Package underwriting with a strong focus and thorough knowledge of Property and General Liability assessment, controls, rules, guidelines, pricing, rating, and coverage.
  • Umbrella underwriting experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Facultative Reinsurance.
  • Ability to review coverage requests and independently make risk decisions based on company appetite, guidelines, risk characteristics and levels of authority. Refers risks as required for additional review.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving and team building skills. Ability to work with sales, loss prevention, premium audit, and the product development staff.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance, target industry and class trends, emerging market needs, issues, and competition as it relates to Commercial Package.
  • This is a field position and requires travel throughout the Pittsburgh Region and surrounding areas several times per week.
  • Travel to our headquarters in West Trenton, NJ is required at least once per quarter at the company's expense.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Guidewire is a plus.
  • Completion of general insurance courses such as CPCU, AU, ARM or CIC are a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Pay Range: $101,415-$117,837.
