Job Description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Life Underwriter in the United States.
This role offers a hands-on opportunity to shape the life insurance underwriting process within a dynamic, technology-driven environment. The Senior Life Underwriter will evaluate risk for both term and permanent life insurance products, making data-driven decisions that directly impact client access and business outcomes. You will work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, champion improvements, and ensure underwriting standards are consistently met. This position provides exposure to innovative insurtech solutions, allowing you to influence both operational and strategic initiatives. Ideal candidates thrive in fast-paced settings, enjoy problem-solving complex risk scenarios, and value being part of a team where their insights carry weight.

Accountabilities:

    • Review and evaluate individual risks, including medical history, occupational factors, and financial background, to determine policy acceptance, modification, or declination.
    • Apply underwriting policies, guidelines, and best practices to ensure accurate and consistent risk selection.
    • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal stakeholders and partners.
    • Independently manage assigned underwriting requests with minimal supervision.
    • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce friction, and maintain mortality expectations.
    • Gather and analyze relevant information efficiently to support timely decision-making.
    • Adapt to ambiguity while maintaining high-quality underwriting standards.

    • Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • 3+ years of experience in life insurance underwriting, including term and permanent products.
    • Demonstrated expertise in medical, non-medical, and financial risk assessment.
    • In-progress or completed industry designations (e.g., LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, FALU).
    • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Positive, inclusive, and collaborative mindset with agility in fast-paced environments.
    • Comfort working independently and managing multiple underwriting requests simultaneously.

    • Benefits:
    • Competitive national base salary range: $77,000 – $137,000 USD.
    • Remote work flexibility within the United States.
    • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance.
    • Opportunities for professional development and industry designation support.
    • Inclusive and diverse workplace culture.
    • Bonus and equity programs in addition to base salary.
