Job Description
Role Description
At Abnormal AI, we safeguard the world’s largest enterprises from cybercrime. We protect our customers against adversaries who constantly evolve their techniques and tactics to outwit and undermine traditional approaches to email security. Our novel, behavior-based approach has earned numerous industry accolades, and we’ve built our reputation through our industry-leading email security solution, which now protects more than 20% of the Fortune 500.
As Abnormal expands its ambitions beyond email into the broader Identity Security landscape, a scalable, reliable infrastructure foundation is critical to powering our next phase of growth.
The Platform & Infrastructure team is seeking a strong Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to help design, build, and operate the core compute and business-critical infrastructure services that form the foundation of Abnormal’s control plane, data plane, and broader product platform.
What you will do
- Design, build, test, scale, monitor, and maintain secure, cost-efficient infrastructure in a multi-cloud environment (AWS and Azure).
- Develop, evolve, and operate infrastructure as code to support repeatable, auditable, and scalable system provisioning.
- Drive design collaboration by participating in technical discussions and providing constructive reviews.
- Contribute as a core member of an agile team by participating in sprint planning, standups, and execution with a strong sense of ownership and teamwork.
- Partner closely with product and application engineering teams to understand platform needs and deliver well-designed, developer-friendly infrastructure abstractions.
- Participate in an on-call rotation with a learning-oriented mindset, gaining insight into customer pain points, identifying systemic gaps, and driving long-term reliability improvements.
- Drive down technical debt and operational toil by addressing root causes, automating repetitive work, and shaping roadmap investments to sustainably reduce both.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Experience working within mature software development practices, including source control, testing, and deployment.
- 4+ years of experience engineering cloud infrastructure solutions for microservice-based systems in production environments, accounting for optimal performance, reliability, security, and cost.
- 2+ years of experience with Python.
- 1+ year of experience with Kubernetes and Helm.
- 1+ year of experience with AWS (VPC, IAM, S3, Route 53, CloudFront, EKS, ECS, CloudWatch).
- 1+ year of experience with Terraform and HCL.
- Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, and operating production-grade systems.
- Practical experience using Generative AI tools in day-to-day engineering workflows.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote-first environment—balancing autonomy with collaboration, demonstrating a bias toward action, and maintaining a positive, constructive mindset.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with Bash, Golang, and Terragrunt.
- Familiarity with Generative AI tools such as Cursor and Claude, and experience driving AI-first workflows and solutions.
- Prior experience building large-scale infrastructure-as-code abstractions.
- AWS certifications.
Benefits
- Eligible for a bonus, restricted stock units (RSUs), and benefits.
- Individual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
- Base salary range: $165,800 — $195,000 USD.
