Role Description

The Senior Manager, Customer Planning & AI Capability Development plays a critical role in advancing Newell’s customer planning excellence across all segments and customers. Reporting to the Senior Director, [Sales Strategy & Capabilities / Category Development], this role supports the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of standards, processes, and tools that enable customer-facing excellence in line reviews, joint business planning, and innovation sell-in. Success requires not only deep commercial capability-building expertise but also the ability to influence cross-functional partners, drive adoption in the field, and embed AI-enabled workflows that improve speed, quality, and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as a strategic capability partner to Segment, Market Development & Planning, and Sales leaders to establish best-in-class customer planning standards, improve execution quality, and accelerate performance across priority retail accounts.
  • Lead the central customer planning capability effort in delivering standards, processes, and tools, including:
    • Establish best-in-class line review/category review standards, including required content modules, templates, and quality checkpoints that translate insights into customer-ready recommendations and action plans.
    • Build and continuously improve a JBP operating system, including planning templates, meeting rhythms, scorecards, governance, and enablement that strengthen consistency and execution across teams and accounts.
    • Develop and maintain reusable libraries (exemplars, modules, checklists, and guidance) to reduce rework, improve consistency, and increase field adoption.
    • Establish training, reinforcement, and adoption mechanisms (workshops, office hours, coaching, feedback loops) across HQ and field Sales & Category Management teams.
  • Lead the design and deployment of AI-enabled tools and workflows that strengthen customer planning effectiveness:
    • Identify, scope, and prioritize high-value AI use cases within line reviews, JBPs, and innovation summit workflows (e.g., insight synthesis, story creation, customer customization, meeting prep/follow-up).
    • Create practical AI enablement assets (prompt libraries, standard work, “how-to” guidance) and drive AI fluency across Sales and Category Management.
    • Partner with Data/Tech to test and deploy workflow-embedded AI capabilities (e.g., copilots/agents, automation, template-integrated AI), ensuring readiness for scale.
    • Implement lightweight governance for customer-facing outputs (approved claims/content, versioning, traceability) to enable responsible, retailer-safe AI adoption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, economics, analytics, or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in CPG commercial roles with demonstrated impact (e.g., Sales Strategy, Commercial Excellence, Category Leadership, Customer Strategy, Sales Enablement/Operations).
  • Proven success building and scaling customer planning standards and toolkits (line reviews/category reviews, JBPs, innovation selling/summits).
  • Strong customer-facing storytelling capability with a track record of translating insights into compelling narratives and actions that drive retailer alignment.
  • Demonstrated capability-building and change leadership experience (training design, adoption/reinforcement programs, cross-functional influence).
  • Practical AI fluency: ability to scope use cases, map workflows, partner with Tech/Data, and drive adoption of AI-enabled tools and behaviors.
  • Strong project planning, organizational, and communication skills; ability to present complex work in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Ability to lead through influence across functions and geographies, driving measurable outcomes under tight timeframes.

Requirements

  • The Remote base pay range for this position is from $164,050 to $200,550. Salary will be based on prior experience related to the skills required for this position.
