Role Description
The Blue Star Claims Internship Program is designed to provide students and early-career professionals with hands-on experience in claims operations, administrative support, and data management within a professional insurance services environment.
- Gain practical exposure to claims administration, intake processes, and clerical operations.
- Support Blue Star’s mission of delivering efficient and accurate claims services.
- Emphasize cross-departmental learning and real-world skill development.
- Work under supervision alongside Adjusters, Claims Assistants, Intake Coordinators, Data Entry Specialists, and Administrative Assistants.
Interns will:
- Develop professional skills in claims operations, administration, and customer communication.
- Gain experience with Blue Star’s proprietary claims management systems and workflows.
- Understand compliance and confidentiality requirements in claims handling.
- Build teamwork, organizational, and time-management skills within a fast-paced insurance operations environment.
- Prepare for potential career opportunities within Blue Star or the broader insurance and claims industry.
Qualifications
- Minimum Age: 16 years or older at time of application.
- Resume Required: Current resume must be submitted.
- “About Me” Statement or Cover Letter: A brief statement outlining career interests, goals, and reasons for applying.
Requirements
- Interns are expected to adhere to a fixed weekly schedule, with designated days and hours maintained consistently.
- Must be an internal referral - applicant must be referred by a current Blue Star employee.
- The referring employee must agree to serve as a mentor and resource for the intern if selected.
- Mentor will not serve as a trainer or supervisor, but be available for guidance and support.
Technology Requirements
- Equipment: Interns may choose one of the following equipment options:
- Company-Provided Option: Blue Star will provide a Mac Mini. Interns selecting this option must supply their own two monitors and maintain a reliable internet connection.
- Personal Device Option: Interns may use their own personal computer with a second screen. Interns who choose this option must sign a Personal Device Use Waiver prior to beginning work.
- If the intern is under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian signature may also be required.
- Reliable internet connection required.
Compensation
- Hourly Pay: Compensation adheres to the minimum wage standards set by the state.
Work Schedule & Hours
- Weekly Hours: 15–29 hours per week.
- Schedule flexibility to accommodate school or personal commitments, subject to management approval.
- Intern time off (Vacation & Sick Combined): 2 hours per pay period.
- Time off may be used for illness, appointments, or planned absences following Blue Star policy.
- Internship Duration: The internship is structured for a 12-week period. Completion of the internship does not guarantee continued employment.
