Role Description
This position involves working as an attorney in the Litigation Section in Harrisburg, defending claims involving civil rights, constitutional law, and employment law while representing the Commonwealth, the OAG, the Governor, and other Commonwealth agencies, officials, and employees.
- Handle cases from pre-complaint discovery and service of legal process through to post-trial motions.
- Consult with the Appellate Litigation Section on any appeals.
- Communicate effectively and possess strong research and writing skills.
- Independently manage a full caseload with support from supervisors and colleagues.
- Occasional travel for client meetings, site visits, and court appearances.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- Admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
- Deputy Attorney General II: Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work.
- Deputy Attorney General III: Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work.
Requirements
- Ability to prepare, try, and argue cases in Pennsylvania in federal and state courts.
- Experience in preparing motions, pleadings, briefs, and other court papers.
- Ability to work with attorney resource and litigation support teams.
- Conduct legal research related to pending litigation.
- Draft, serve, and respond to discovery requests.
- Take and defend depositions of parties and witnesses, including experts.
- Counsel clients regarding case-related activities.
- Devise and implement litigation strategy with clients.
- Participate in and facilitate e-discovery efforts.
- Answer routine case-related correspondence.
