Role Description

This role involves providing vital legal support and advice related to surety claims, ensuring that the company effectively manages risk and maintains compliance.

  • Handle surety claims matters independently, including identifying recovery opportunities.
  • Build strong working relationships with Surety Underwriting and Operations teams globally.
  • Provide accurate legal counsel on surety underwriting and business matters.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting claims reports within the organization.
  • Coordinate and conduct educational sessions for internal staff on surety issues.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel on claims and underwriting matters.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary state adjuster’s licenses.
  • Participate actively in surety industry groups and local events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited institution.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; Canadian province admission is a plus.
  • 5-7 years of legal experience in the surety industry, ideally in-house.
  • Proven track record of managing mid-level surety claims and providing underwriting support.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with cross-border underwriting and indemnity matters is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to learn and integrate AI technologies into business processes.
