Role Description

The philanthropic foundation is hiring a Director of Patient Navigation to serve as an information concierge and care coordinator for individuals navigating a cancer diagnosis or disease progression. This role does not involve providing medical advice or delivering direct medical care. Instead, the Director serves as a critical bridge - helping patients and their families understand their options, navigate the healthcare system, and successfully onboard with concierge medicine providers.

Following significant media coverage around the funder's work in this space, there has been a surge of people reaching out to learn about and pursue similar treatment approaches. Existing providers do not have the capacity to provide the level of personal guidance that newly diagnosed or progressing patients require. The Director will support approximately 20 patients per year, providing sustained, high-touch coordination during one of the most challenging periods of their lives.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients newly diagnosed with cancer or experiencing disease progression, guiding them through available treatment options and emerging approaches
  • Help patients and their families evaluate and onboard with concierge medicine providers, including managing the application and acceptance process
  • Provide holistic coordination that extends beyond the medical - supporting patients in managing family dynamics, logistics, and the emotional toll of a diagnosis
  • Translate complex scientific and clinical information into clear, accessible guidance for patients and caregivers (without providing direct medical advice)
  • Stay current on advances in genomic sequencing, personalized therapies, combination treatment approaches, and the evolving landscape of precision oncology
  • Maintain detailed records of patient interactions and outcomes to support organizational learning and program improvement

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, oncology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field)
  • Foundational understanding of cancer biology, genomics, and modern treatment modalities including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and personalized medicine
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills - able to convey complex scientific concepts to patients and families with empathy and clarity
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals under significant emotional distress; prior experience in patient advocacy, genetic counseling, clinical research coordination, or similar roles is highly valued
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple patient relationships simultaneously with meticulous follow-through
  • Self-directed and comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage environment with evolving processes

Requirements

  • Doctoral-level training in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Prior experience in patient navigation, oncology social work, genetic counseling, or concierge medicine coordination
  • Familiarity with the clinical trial landscape and emerging cancer treatment paradigms
  • Experience working with high-net-worth or high-profile individuals in a service-oriented capacity

Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Flexibility: 100% Remote (US-based).
  • Impact: High-leverage role improving the future of cancer treatment.
