RN | Regional Stroke Coordinator (0.6 FTE)

Department: Stroke Program Services
Location: Remote (Must reside in WI, MN, or IA) with required on-site onboarding
FTE: 0.6 | 3 days per week with flexible scheduling | Salaried Position

Position Overview

We are seeking an independent, self‑motivated Regional Stroke Coordinator to support stroke care quality and education across our regional critical access hospitals—both affiliate and partner sites. This role plays a key part in acute stroke management support, regional process improvement, and ongoing coordination of our TeleNeurology partnership with TeleSpecialists.

This position is primarily remote; however, on‑site training in La Crosse is required during the initial onboarding period to develop a strong understanding of acute stroke workflows, team structure, and program expectations. Once established in the role, regional travel will occur up to monthly for on‑site visits.

This role is ideal for a nurse who enjoys autonomy, collaboration, education, and making a system-level impact across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Support & Education

  • Serve as the primary regional liaison for critical access hospitals, focusing on acute stroke management and process optimization.

  • Build relationships through regular virtual communication and monthly in‑person visits (with increased support as needed).

  • Deliver education, guidance, and high-level data updates at monthly regional stroke meetings.

TeleNeurology Program Coordination

  • Coordinate all aspects of the TeleSpecialists partnership, ensuring contract expectations and performance standards are met.

Process Improvement & Data

  • Support regional teams in identifying improvement opportunities and implementing effective workflows.

  • Collaborate with internal quality partners on performance metrics and documentation needs.

  • Create and maintain graphs, visual data, and presentations using Excel and PowerPoint.

Team & Community Engagement

  • Work closely with a small, collaborative stroke program team including the Stroke Program Manager, La Crosse Stroke Coordinator, Non‑Clinical Stroke Coordinator, and Data Registrar.

  • Support community-facing outreach and awareness events as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Registered Nurse (RN), licensed in the state of practice (may require additional state licensure depending on coverage area)

  • 3–4 years of nursing experience

  • Current Infant–Adult Basic Life Support (AHA or Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing

  • 2 years of neuroscience nursing experience

  • Clinical leadership experience

  • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) or Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN)

Skills & Attributes

Must-Have Competencies

  • Strong independent work ethic and ability to self‑prioritize

  • Comfort functioning autonomously across multiple sites

  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills

  • Ability to self‑educate and learn new tools and guidelines

  • Commitment to quality improvement and process optimization

Technical Skills

  • Excel (graphs, tracking, and data management) – training available

  • PowerPoint (presentation development)

  • Epic or similar EMR experience

Schedule & Work Environment

  • 0.6 FTE / 3 days per week (option for 4 shorter days)

  • Remote eligible once on-site onboarding in La Crosse is complete (MUST reside in WI, MN, or IA)

  • Up to monthly regional travel once fully trained

  • High autonomy; flexible workday when meetings allow

  • Small, supportive, collaborative team

  • No on-call responsibilities

What Makes This Role Unique

  • High autonomy with the flexibility to manage your schedule

  • Opportunity to shape stroke care processes across 13+ regional care locations

  • Work within a supportive, tight-knit team culture

  • Blend of education, clinical insight, and regional impact

  • Direct contribution to improving stroke outcomes in rural communities
