Job Description

CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Manager Billing & Collections. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for the overall performance of the company’s billing and collections operations, including invoicing, payments, disbursements, internal collections processes, and oversight of external vendors. You will lead the Billing & Collections team and serve as Process Owner for activities supported by third-party resources, ensuring adherence to service levels, performance metrics, and quality standards. This role also drives process improvement initiatives to standardize workflows and increase operational efficiency. Job Responsibilities: Lead and direct an effective and efficient Billing and Collections processes Ensure timely and accurate assistance to insureds, agents/brokers, internal staff, with the resolution of billing and collections issues Approval of premium write-offs, payment plans, disbursements, fee write-offs, and other billing adjustments, per authority limits Provide oversite of third-party collectors’ results, pushing both outstanding results and cost saving measures when appropriate. Continuous process re-evaluation to ensure Billing functions, collateral, documentation, and processes maintain compliance with regulators and other governing bodies. Develop staff through effective coaching and mentoring and performance management, to maximize individual employee contributions for achievement of personal and company goals Responsible for recruiting, hiring and development of an effective billing and collections team Support the premium audit, underwriting, agency distribution, customer service and information technology departments, as required Responsible for department reporting/analysis (e.g., accounts receivable aging, vendor performance, fee revenue, bad debt accounts) Continued focus on decreasing debt across the enterprise by ensuring timely and accurate billing, with consistency in debt collection. Manage relationships with external vendors Provide support to external collection agencies during mediation or litigation Serve as a subject matter expert regarding billing and collections workflows and associated system functionality Ensure adherence to/compliance with all state and federal regulations as well as all company collection related policies Qualifications/Competencies: Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting, Business, Finance, or other related field 8+ years’ experience in a collections, billing, or department 5+ years Management experience and/or ability to demonstrate increasing supervisory responsibility Previous workers compensation or property and casualty Thorough knowledge of the workers’ compensation and commercial lines insurance processes, including knowledge of underwriting and audit functions Thorough knowledge of billing and collection practices, accounts receivable management, contract compliance, and understanding of cash flow Thorough knowledge of credit, bankruptcy and collection laws, and advanced collection techniques Experience with invoicing and payment strategies and processes Exceptional Customer Service skills and the ability to negotiate and effectively manage conflict Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Leadership Skills: Models self leadership that encourages open, honest dialogue and leverages diverse strengths of self and others. Communicates in a clear, relevant and timely manner that promotes common understanding and engages stakeholders. Creates and manages synergistic relationships to achieve shared business objectives.
