Job Description

The Marymount University Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program is to provide exceptional speech-language pathology education with a global perspective that upholds social justice and inclusion, antiracism and decolonization, and anti-ableism. We nurture intellectual curiosity and prepare students to be of service to others through developing empathetic, skilled professionals dedicated to the fundamental right to communication. Expectations of a tenure-track faculty member are 80% Teaching, 10% Scholarship, 10% Service. The SLP program is a fully online graduate program (M.S.) and in person undergraduate Health Sciences track in Pre-Speech-Language Pathology (with online undergraduate leveling courses). The Marymount University SLP program is committed to fostering a robust learning environment that engages students deeply in learning through project-based learning and experiences in applied settings. We recognize the profound impact of systemic inequities in education and healthcare that impact individuals with communication and swallowing disorders, and we strive to engage these principles through our academic curriculum, clinical practice, and connections to our communities. Our program is student focused and justice oriented. All faculty report to the Director of the School of Health Sciences. Reports to: Director of the School of Health Sciences Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the philosophy and objectives of the program. Collaborate with other faculty members to design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum. Teach online courses as assigned (in person undergraduate courses optional). Mentor graduate and undergraduate or post-bacc students. Assess student learning to support learning, grading, and progression of individual students, as well as program-level assessment to support ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement. Contribute to developing student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the shared governance processes. Provide direct and indirect clinical supervision of SLP students when needed. Work collaboratively with colleagues and clinical partners. Provide service activities to the department, college, and/or university, as well as demonstrate continued engagement with the academic and practitioner community in their field. Maintain current licensure and ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence. Conduct scholarship to support clinical practice, advancement of the profession, or innovation in teaching and learning, including dissemination of research through peer-reviewed journals and professional conferences. Participate in academic mentorship of students in accordance with requirements of the Financial Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 USC § 1232g), including respecting rights for privacy, requirements for ongoing training and compliance, and appropriate record-keeping. Assume professional responsibilities as requested by the Director of SLP program and the Director of the School of Health Sciences. Engage in and document ongoing professional development in clinical practice, teaching and learning. For faculty directly involved in leading clinical simulation, engage in and document professional development in simulation pedagogy. Support the documentation of actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation to support program review and evaluation in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Contribute to the University, College of Health and Education, and program functions and events, including new student orientation, admissions events, and onboarding, residencies, and commencement. Other duties and responsibilities are specific to faculty rank and whether a faculty member is tenure/tenure-track.
