Job Description
• Lead the engineering effort for new and ongoing substation projects.
• Support multiple projects simultaneously and work closely with NV5 Substation Engineering leadership to ensure project success.
• Work in small project teams to provide exceptional customer service and quality in deliverables to our clients.
• Prepare conceptual designs and execution plans.
• Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.
• Perform and document quality reviews for other engineers and designers.
• Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects.
• Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks.
• Prepare calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects meeting internal and client standards and requirements.
• Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas.
• Work and coordinate with small multi-discipline (Civil, Structural, Physical, P&C, Transmission Line) project teams to execute substation projects.
• Provide weekly updates to Sr. team leaders on milestone progress, estimated completion dates including percent completion of activities and supporting information to monitor project progress.
Job Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field.
- Experience with high voltage substation design (12kV through 500kV) activities such as preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment.
- Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.
- Strong preference for those with excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, great organizational skills, proactive and forward-thinking individuals.
- Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) is a plus.
- Experience with relay settings is a plus.
- Knowledge of substation physical equipment is a plus.
- Knowledge of Protection and Controls design is a must.
- B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- PE license is a must.
