Job Description

• Counsel Stripe product and partnerships teams on a range of issues including payments regulations (including for money transmission or e-money), financial partnerships, payment schemes rules, data privacy, marketing, and monetization • Collaborate with Stripe teams, including product, partnerships, engineering, compliance, marketing, and risk on product development and commercialization • Support the drafting and negotiation of key deals with Stripe’s financial partners • Work closely with colleagues across Stripe’s legal team to support Stripe’s regulatory structure, scheme rule compliance, customer agreements, and financial partnerships • Help build scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new products • Draft, review, and update foundational documents for Stripe’s payments products • Stay up-to-date, with the support of Stripe’s legal team, on US and international laws and regulations dealing with payments, financial services, data privacy, and marketing • Participate as a proactive business partner to senior leaders and build relationships as a trusted advisor

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer in a top law firm, in-house legal team and/or government agency working with financial institutions or financial technology companies on product legal matters and financial partner negotiations
  • A juris doctorate degree
  • Experience counseling product teams, technical teams, and other non-lawyers on product development and deal structure
  • A passion for technology and ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly
  • An entrepreneurial spirit – a self-starter and self-learner who thrives in a fast paced environment, deals well with ambiguity and focuses on driving impact
  • Excellent judgement and capable of making smart decisions with imperfect information
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
