Job Description

• Manage all inventory accounting processes, including cost accounting, inventory valuation, reserves, and obsolescence • Ensure accurate and timely recording of inventory transactions in the general ledger by partnering with operations and supply chain teams • Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle counts; investigate and resolve discrepancies • Analyze inventory variances and trends, and clearly communicate findings to management • Maintain and improve internal controls related to inventory • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to inventory and COGS • Prepare inventory-related journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures • Partner with operations and supply chain teams to understand inventory drivers • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and inventory planning • Lead annual financial and bank audits for Inventory and COGS, providing documentation and explanations as needed across other areas. • Lead or mentor inventory accounting staff, as applicable • Drive process improvements and system enhancements related to inventory accounting • Work cross-functionally to assign ownership for close-related tasks and communicate progress in real time during the close process

Job Requirements

  • 5-7 years of accounting experience with significant inventory exposure
  • Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or retail environment, with strong preference for CPG
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and inventory accounting principles
  • Experience with cost accounting and variance analysis
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred), including transactional inventory and COGS workflows
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze, transform, and manage large datasets
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and communicate clearly with non-accounting partners
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience with inventory controls and SOX compliance is preferred
  • Prior people management experience is preferred
