Job Description

• Operate as a bridge between the Data team and Risk team - not just to maintain what exists, but to explore what's possible. • Deeply understand Risk's problems, priorities, and workflows rather than delivering models over the fence • Build analytical and machine learning models that drive business decisions across our insurance/actuarial functions - including next-generation approaches that challenge industry conventions • Partner with our risk and insurance team to support loss modeling, pricing analyses, and portfolio performance metrics, while identifying novel data sources that haven't been leveraged in this industry • Design and run experiments (e.g. A/B tests, causal inference analyses) to measure product and pricing impacts • Translate complex analytical findings into clear recommendations for non-technical audiences • Dig into data, identify patterns, and move quickly from question to insight to action

Job Requirements

  • Solid understanding of how insurance works - loss ratios, premium calculations, claims processes, reserving concepts. A/FCAS certification would be a plus!
  • Experience building models for pricing, risk segmentation, or loss prediction
  • Comfort working with policy and claims data, understanding coverage structures, and navigating regulatory reporting requirements
  • 5-7 years of experience in a data science, analytics, or quantitative role
  • Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python for analysis and modeling
  • Strong Machine Learning skills - classical machine learning proficiency and at least familiarity with deep learning methodology
  • Ability to work autonomously-you can be a genuine member of two teams at the same time, own the bidirectional relationship, and drive toward answers without close direction
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and you're expected to deliver iteratively.

Benefits

  • Competitive cash compensation package including base salary, milestone based bonus, and other financial perks
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage (up to 90% employer contribution) - eligible from your start date
  • 401(k), HSA, Life & Disability Insurance Coverage ($0 employee contribution for additional insurances)
  • Unlimited PTO Policy
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave
  • Stock option plan to give our employees a direct stake in R + J's success
  • Monthly lifestyle stipend to fit your needs (meals, wellness, co-working)
