Job Description
• Lead and perform the complete design of substation projects including: General arrangement and equipment layout drawings, Grounding, lighting, conduit and cable plans, Control building layouts, AC/DC auxiliary systems, Bill of Materials and material specifications, One-line, three-line, and wiring diagrams
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, project managers, and internal teams.
• Perform and check design calculations for short-circuit forces, ampacity, grounding, lightning protection, and voltage drop.
• Review and approve design packages prepared by junior engineers and designers.
• Prepare equipment specifications and procurement documents for major substation components (power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, protection panels).
• Provide engineering support during procurement, fabrication, and construction.
• Develop and enforce project design standards, quality procedures, and best practices.
• Mentor and train junior engineering staff.
• Support proposals and business development by developing scope, schedule, and budget estimates.
• Maintain compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements (NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE).
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power emphasis preferred) or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 8 years of experience in substation physical design engineering
- Proficiency with substation design tools and software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley Substation, or similar)
- Working knowledge of P&C design fundamentals and schematics
- Demonstrated ability to lead project design teams and review deliverables for accuracy and compliance
- Strong understanding of relevant codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, NEC)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with clients, utilities, and construction contractors.
