Job Description
Role Description
As Strategic Finance Manager, your mission is to help shape some of the most important decisions at AfterShip. You will partner closely with leaders across Go-to-Market (GTM), Product, and Operations to bring clarity to complex problems, surface trade-offs, and translate data into actionable insights that drive the business forward.
In this role, you won’t just build models or reports - you will help frame the questions that matter, guide cross-functional decision-making, and ensure leadership has the financial perspective needed to scale the company thoughtfully. Success in this role is defined by the quality and impact of the decisions you help enable, from growth investments to long-term strategic initiatives.
This position reports into AfterShip's Director of Finance, Global. This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates based in the United States (Pacific Time) or Canada (Greater Toronto Area). This role requires collaboration with teams located in Asia and Europe, which may require working outside of regular business hours 1-2 times/week (with advance notice).
What You’ll Do:
-
Drive strategic decision-making:
- Own decision framing for selected GTM and Product investment initiatives, providing clarity on trade-offs to efficiently guide the company’s growth.
-
Lead scenario modeling & sensitivity analysis:
- Evaluate hypotheses around pricing, GTM expansion, and new therapeutic verticals to uncover growth opportunities, surface structural risks, and support the company’s financial objectives.
-
Optimize performance efficiency:
- Partner with North America department leaders to conduct deep analyses of churn, retention, ARPU, and cohort trends, identifying drivers of revenue performance and actionable levers for growth.
-
Be a hands-on strategic partner:
- Collaborate closely with business leaders and the Head of Finance to translate insights into actionable recommendations and drive high-priority initiatives.
-
Support cross-functional projects:
- Contribute to initiatives such as GTM compensation plans, annual planning cycles, and other key strategic projects.
-
Work across global teams:
- Partner with China-based FP&A, Business Partnering, Finance, and Data teams to ensure seamless execution and alignment on initiatives.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in strategic finance, investment banking, private equity, FP&A, or strategy & operations, ideally with operational experience at a fast-growing, scaling company (SaaS experience highly preferred).
- Cross-functional partnership experience, collaborating with Sales, Marketing, RevOps, Customer Success, and Data teams to influence decisions through insight and analysis.
- Strong analytical toolkit, including Excel, SQL, and BI tools (Looker, Tableau, etc.), with the ability to build financial models from scratch in an operationally complex, high-growth environment.
- Trusted partner mindset: Able to challenge business leaders constructively while maintaining credibility and trust.
- Language preference: Mandarin-speaking candidates are highly valued.
Core Capabilities
- Decision Framing: Can structure ambiguous problems into clear decision options; comfortable articulating trade-offs and risks.
- Business-first Thinking: Starts from business logic and decision context; uses finance to validate, not to dominate.
- Judgment Under Uncertainty: Able to make recommendations with 60-70% information; explicit about assumptions.
- Organizational Awareness: Knows when to go deep vs. when to stop.
- Strong communication skills (decision discussions, not presentations).
Benefits
- Great Place to Work Certified: Recognized for our inclusive, values-driven culture that celebrates diversity and collaboration.
- Innovative & Inclusive Culture: Built on curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
- Ambitious Mission with Real Impact: Join us in transforming eCommerce.
- Thrive & Grow: No ceiling to what you can achieve or learn here.
- Flexible Work Setup: Remote-first team with flexible hours.

- Remote-first/hybrid-flexible work setups
- Healthcare coverage offered from day 1
- Retirement plans including company match
- Unlimited PTO
- Annual learning & wellness benefit
- Monthly book perk
- Career progression & professional development
- In-office lunch and commuter benefits for those located in our hub locations
