Role Description
Supports the enterprise-wide Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) network operations, development of monitoring tools and procedures, router and switch configurations, backup systems, network disaster recovery, improvement of the existing network architecture and design, and the logistics involved with the procurement and installation of network infrastructure equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Technical project management experience
- Experience in network architecture and design
- Experience in the successful establishment of production networks
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be considered
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of network fundamentals including cabling standards, TCP/IP and network addressing
- Extensive knowledge of common network hardware including Cisco switches, routers, and wireless access points
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; Google Apps
- Knowledge of software change management, defect management and software support
- Knowledge of network segmentation and VLAN implementation
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills; ability to participate in and encourage team management concepts and promote a positive working environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- High commitment to achieving goals and plans
- Ability to plan, positively influence, and negotiate
- Ability to analyze technical documents/specs and translate to business rules
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community
