The Office of Civil Legal Aid (OCLA) is an independent judicial branch state agency, created with the understanding that the provision of legal aid services to indigent persons is an important component of the state’s responsibility to provide for the proper and effective administration of justice. The mission of the Office of Civil Legal Aid is to secure, invest and oversee the use of public funding for civil legal aid to low-income people in Washington State and to ensure accountability for public funds dedicated to the purpose. Since 2005, OCLA has administered and overseen general civil legal aid in Washington. The agency supports numerous other programs including legal aid to victims of crime and domestic violence, children in foster care, kinship caregivers, indigent tenants facing eviction, and individuals reentering society following completion of their terms of incarceration.

Role Description

The Bob Keppel Criminal Justice Division (CRJ) of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office has an exciting and rewarding opportunity in its downtown Seattle office for an attorney interested in investigating and prosecuting financial crimes!

  • The Financial Crimes Team investigates and prosecutes a wide variety of cases including wage theft, identity theft, complex fraud, elder fraud, and crimes committed by government employees and public officials.
  • We seek an attorney with significant litigation experience to combat fraud in Washington.
  • The selected candidate will work closely with senior AGO investigators, as well as state agencies and state, local, and federal law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute financial crimes.
  • While the primary focus of this position is prosecuting financial crimes, the selected candidate should be proficient in prosecuting a full range of crimes.
  • The Attorney General’s Office receives criminal referrals from any of Washington’s 39 county prosecuting attorneys or the governor.
  • The selected candidate will work in downtown Seattle, but travel around the state for court hearings, investigations, and trial preparation as necessary.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of trial experience and trial practice in criminal law.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that promote a collegial, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
  • Demonstrated good judgment when exercising discretion in criminal cases.
  • The ability to work independently and in a variety of settings.
  • Commitment to public service and justice for victims of crime.
  • Admission to practice law in Washington state courts.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program.
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington state (Applicants actively pursuing admission by motion will also be considered).
