Job Description
Role Description
Design and build a payment processing platform from scratch:
- Core payment flows
- Transaction lifecycle
- Routing logic
- Retries, fallbacks, settlements
- Refunds, chargebacks
Define and own the end-to-end product vision for payment processing, from zero state to a scalable production system.
Architect payment flows across multiple providers (PSPs, acquirers, banks), including:
- Multi-PSP routing
- MID management
- Failover strategies
Own the core gateway logic:
- Authorization
- Capture
- Voids
- Refunds
- Recurring payments
- Payouts
- Callbacks/webhooks
Work closely with engineering on system design decisions:
- APIs
- Data models
- Idempotency
- Reliability
- Observability
Translate business and compliance requirements into clear product and technical specifications.
Own the full product lifecycle:
- Discovery
- Design
- Delivery
- Launch
- Iteration
Ensure compliance with:
- PCI DSS
- 3DS
- Card scheme rules (Visa/Mastercard)
- Regulatory requirements
Manage relationships with external partners:
- PSPs
- Acquirers
- Fraud/KYC providers
Drive product decisions based on metrics:
- Approval rates
- Latency
- Decline reasons
- Cost per transaction
- Stability
Qualifications
- At least 4-5+ years of experience as a Product Manager in payments/fintech
- Proven hands-on experience building payment processing or payment gateway products from scratch (not only integrations or feature ownership - core processing logic is mandatory)
- Deep understanding of the payment transaction lifecycle: card payments, 3DS, authorization/clearing/settlement, PSP and acquirer integrations, routing, cascading, retries, failover
- Strong understanding of payment system architecture and how backend systems work
- Ability to work as a product owner with architectural thinking, not just requirements management
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in complex, regulated environments
- High ownership mindset: able to independently drive decisions and outcomes
- Strong analytical, system-thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- English level B2 or higher, fluent Russian
