All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions. JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey. Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda. Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.

This is a pro-bono position.
JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.
The College Engagement Department Head provides leadership, direction, and planning to identify, reach out to, and partner with Universities and Colleges in New Jersey in order to initiate programs that secure the supply of volunteer program instructors to be deployed in the middle schools JerseySTEM serves.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of 4-5 direct reports in charge of different teams: Business Development, Student Groups, Individual students
- Report to the board of directors or the Executive Board Member overseeing COLE
- Interact with peer department heads
- Coordinate with COME (Community Engagement) and DEVT (Corporate Partnerships Development) to determine the geographic focus for the given season
- Work with HUCA to hire new/replacements
- Collaborate with FINA for the budget of the department
- Coordinate with MKTG for the marketing needs of the department
- Work to continuously improve and streamline JerseySTEM’s approach to college engagement
- Represent COLE at the Monthly Leadership Team. Participate in the leadership team activities of budgeting/planning and reporting
Mandatory Meetings:
- Conduct/Attend virtual team meetings weekly: (Sundays 5pm EST)
- Biweekly team leads meeting
- Monthly Department Heads Meetings (2nd Thursday 7:30pm)
- Quarterly board Meeting (Last Wednesday 7:30pm)
Time Commitment
- 3-6 Hours weekly
- 6 months minimum

- Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
- Strong leadership/team building skills
- Resourceful, can-do attitude
- Experience with Universities and College campuses
- Outreach experience preferred
- Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc.) and managing others
- Comfort working virtually with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, Salesforce)
- Flexible schedule to allow for daytime calls with school admins during the work week would be a plus
