Role Description
The School of Professional Studies is seeking an adjunct instructor to develop and teach the new course Principles of Project Management for the Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences. The course will be offered in an online, synchronous, semester-based format geared toward part-time, adult undergraduate students.
The course will provide a foundational understanding of project management principles and practices, specifically tailored to the unique context of the biopharmaceutical and biomanufacturing industries. Students will learn core concepts of:
- Project initiation
- Planning
- Execution
- Monitoring
- Control
- Closure
Emphasis will be placed on:
- Regulatory compliance
- Risk management
- Quality assurance
- Specific challenges and opportunities within these sectors
The instructor will add their subject matter expertise and real-world examples, partnering with MCPHS leaders to ensure content is relevant to employers. As part of the course development process, the instructor will partner with a project manager and instructional design manager.
The instructor will play an important role in the continuous improvement and overall success of the course, establishing the foundation of the Bachelor of Science program and directly impacting its quality and future success. Responsibilities include:
- Working with assigned course designer to develop content (assignments, presentations, readings, discussion boards, quizzes, exams)
- Developing and providing students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria
- Delivering course instruction using the University learning management system and digital tools
- Using the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students
- Advising and assisting students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by video conference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
- Providing service, including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and collaboration towards a new certificate in life sciences industry fundamentals
- Maintaining communication with the Program Director and Assistant Dean, identifying any students of concern and relaying student progress
- Maintaining a presence in the course as directed by the Program Director, including answering student emails promptly and participating in interactive course elements where necessary
- Ensuring the course meets the high-quality standards of other MCPHS online and on-campus courses
- Identifying tactics to improve the course based on feedback
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in related field
- Previous experience teaching and/or developing courses to undergraduate students in adult, part-time, or online programs
- Previous experience in the life sciences
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- A commitment to student success and the ability to engage and motivate students
- Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents)
- Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
- Experience with video-conferencing platforms, such as Zoom

- Compensation: The pay range associated with this posting reflects the amount the University reasonably expects to pay for this role at this time. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.
