Job Description
Role Description
The Finance Associate works on the Finance & Grants team, supporting and contributing to maintaining ClimateWorks’ strong financial position. He/she/they work in a dynamic environment requiring detail-oriented, independent, and professional work. He/she/they will coordinate closely with others on the Finance & Grants Team, contributing to the team’s grantmaking process reviewing grantees’ financial position and reviewing financial reports.
Essential Tasks
- Reviewing grantee financial documents (including financial statements and organizational budgets) to ensure that grantees are financially healthy, flagging any concerns to the Senior Director, Finance.
- Verifying completeness of grantee financial reporting and coordinating with grantees and the Grants Team on incomplete reports. Flagging any concerns to the Senior Director, Finance.
- Contributing to an effective grantmaking forecast and monitoring spenddown on ending funding sources.
- Assisting with quarterly collection and analysis of time estimates.
- Working with the team to ensure accuracy of information in ClimateWorks’ budget and reporting system, Adaptive.
- Aiding in the development and improvement of team systems, including Adaptive and the new Grants Management System, and team processes.
- Providing ad-hoc financial analysis, as needed.
- Contributing to the work and priorities of the Finance & Grants Team, as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; course work or work experience in Finance or Accounting.
- 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with general accounting and financial principles, including reading financial statements and budgeting.
- Experience maintaining a database.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, with ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow through on open issues and work effectively with a diverse group of staff, partners and vendors in a service-oriented manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Commitment to the mission of the ClimateWorks Foundation.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently (both virtually and in-person) with minimal supervision.

- Salary Range (Bay Area / NYC): $80,000 - $85,000 annually
- Salary Range (Other US): $70,000 - $80,000 annually
Location
ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. This position is classified as US Flexible. Exceptional candidates can work from the SF office or from other locations, geographic differential applied to compensation based on local cost of labor.
