Role Description
This role is Homebased.
Reporting to the Director Regulatory Compliance & Quality, the Quality Auditor, North America is responsible for conducting comprehensive food safety, quality system, and regulatory compliance audits across all North American manufacturing sites.
- Identify risks and ensure alignment with corporate QA policies, customer-specific requirements, and relevant regulatory standards through interviews and observations of plant processes.
- Provide objective assessments, identify gaps, and support continuous improvement across the organization.
- Partner with operation teams to ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain deep knowledge of corporate QA policies and customer programs.
- Conduct process audits comparing plant practices across all shifts to Refresco QMS and develop action improvement plans with those facilities.
- Complete scheduled and unscheduled internal audits against corporate QA policies and customer programs at North American plants, reviewing Food Safety & Quality systems, GMPs, HACCP, and Preventive Controls.
- Verify compliance with regulatory standards, SQF requirements and product certification standards.
- Document and report audit findings clearly and objectively.
- Track and support corrective and preventive action plans.
- Provide training on corporate QA standards and audit readiness.
- Prepare detailed audit reports and executive summaries.
- Support auditor training and competency development for internal audit team members.
- Identify performance trends, recurring issues, and areas of risk through data analysis.
- Develop clear reports and dashboards to communicate findings to leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing or auditing.
- In-depth knowledge of SQF Code, food safety principles, GMPs, and regulatory requirements (CFIA, FDA, FSMA, etc.).
- Strong understanding of Corporate Quality Policies.
- HACCP and PCQI certification preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and strong investigative skills.
- Ability to influence without authority.
- Cross-functional collaboration.
- Structured problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, SAP and Power Point.
- Compliance mindset.
- Excellent communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands: Continuously standing or walking. Regular requirements to lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight.
- Visual/Sensory: This position requires attention to detail, requiring attention with one or two senses at a time.
- Work environment: Fast-paced, requiring the ability to remain focused under pressure.
- Climate: Ability to work in ambient hot and/or cold seasonal environments.
- Set own hours when within the plant, but some afternoon/evening work will be required.
Travel Requirements
- Travel (50-75%).
