Job Description
Role Description
Knight Insurance Group is seeking a seasoned Construction Defect Claims Specialist to manage complex, litigated CGL claims involving multi-party construction defect matters, primarily in California. This role is designed for an experienced adjuster who is comfortable operating in high-exposure environments, analyzing coverage in detail, and driving strategic claim resolution in partnership with defense counsel and internal stakeholders. You will have meaningful file ownership, appropriate authority levels, and the ability to apply technical judgment in resolving long-tail, coverage-intensive matters.
What you’ll do as a Senior Construction Defect Claims Specialist:
- Managing a portfolio of complex construction defect claims from inception through resolution
- Analyzing CGL coverage, endorsements, exclusions, and contractual risk transfer
- Handling multi-party and litigated matters with a strategic, resolution-focused mindset
- Setting and adjusting reserves based on exposure analysis and litigation posture
- Selecting and managing defense counsel and expert vendors
- Participating in mediations and settlement negotiations within authority
- Preparing thorough coverage analyses and recommendations when higher authority is required
- Identifying and pursuing subrogation or contribution opportunities
- Collaborating with underwriting, legal, and management on emerging exposure trends
This position focuses exclusively on complex GL construction defect claims — not mixed lines or high-volume general casualty.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial general liability claims experience
- Strong background in construction defect, including litigated and multi-party matters
- Demonstrated experience handling California construction defect claims
- Deep understanding of CGL coverage interpretation and risk transfer analysis
- Experience working with defense counsel and participating in mediation
- Strong technical writing and analytical skills
- Ability to manage a complex caseload independently
- Active adjuster license (or ability to obtain where required)
Benefits
- Medical, Dental, Vision, Supplemental Life Insurance, LTD, and Flexible Spending Account
- 401K and Employee Stock Ownership Program (employer matching)
- UKG Wallet (access to your pay before payday)
- Tickets at Work - discounts on entertainment, travel, and more
- AT&T Wireless discounts
- Midway Rent a Car discount (California Only)
- Dell Member Purchase Program
