Role Description

Revamp is seeking a Power Systems Studies Engineer with a strong emphasis on Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) analysis. This role focuses on performing transient overvoltage and switching studies using EMT simulation tools while maintaining competency in core power system analyses. This role contributes to Revamp's mission of accelerating the clean energy transition by delivering technically sound, defensible analyses that enable safe and reliable grid integration.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Technical Responsibilities and Focus Areas
    • Perform EMT-based transient studies including:
      • Temporary Overvoltage (TOV)
      • Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV)
      • Switching Overvoltage (SOV)
      • Lightning and surge analysis
    • Develop and execute simulations using PSCAD (primary) and/or EMTP-RV.
    • Evaluate insulation coordination and equipment duty under transient conditions.
    • Develop and validate system models, including inverter-based resources (PV, BESS).
    • Perform core power system studies including:
      • Power flow studies
      • Short-circuit studies
      • Harmonic analysis and mitigation assessment
    • Prepare engineering documentation and structured technical reports.
    • Translate study results into practical engineering recommendations (e.g., surge arrester selection, breaker ratings, insulation levels, harmonic filtering).
  • Project Related Responsibilities
    • Coordinate with internal discipline team members to complete assigned tasks.
    • Prepare structured, defensible technical reports suitable for client and utility review.
    • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of assigned engineering work.
    • Interface directly with clients and utilities to define study scope, present results, and support technical discussions.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Maintain accurate project documentation and modeling files.
    • Support schedule coordination and timely delivery of assigned tasks.
    • May assist in developing work plans for assigned study tasks.
    • Complete essential duties including meeting assigned deadlines and deliverables.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree or greater is desirable.
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in power systems studies.
  • Demonstrated experience using EMT simulation tools (PSCAD preferred; EMTP-RV acceptable).
  • Experience performing transient studies using EMT tools.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Insulation coordination principles and standards
    • Power flow analysis
    • Short-circuit studies
    • Harmonic analysis fundamentals
  • Ability to evaluate and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Experience with renewable energy plant studies (PV, BESS) and inverter-based resource modeling.
  • Familiarity with utility or ISO interconnection study processes.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or Canadian P. Eng) licensure is desirable.

Benefits

  • Participation in Revamp's Employee Ownership ESOP program.
  • Competitive compensation with bonus.
  • Full benefits package including 99% employer-paid health, vision, life, and dental insurance.
  • Medical, dependent care, and commuter FSA.
  • Monthly health and wellness stipend.
  • Attractive vacation, sick, and holiday pay.
