Role Description
The Developer position supports the University’s mission by designing and implementing custom software solutions and integrating third-party applications that enhance institutional operations. This role contributes to a collaborative and service-oriented technology environment while mentoring fellow developers, student workers, and interns, helping to cultivate technical growth and excellence within the Pepperdine community.
Duties
- LEADERSHIP & ADMINISTRATION: Provides assistance and guidance, through mentorship, for other developers, student workers, and interns in the IT Department to support University development. Reviews and submits regular paperwork and processes, such as status reports, bi-weekly or monthly timesheets, assessments for mid-year and annual reviews, and other routine IT and University practices. Keeps personal and shared workspaces clean and organized.
- APPLICATION AND SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION: Designs, develops, and implements major custom applications for the University including planning, analysis, design, data modeling, coding, implementation, testing, training, documentation, and maintenance.
- INNOVATION AND SOLUTIONS: Studies the feasibility of new project requests and gathers requirements from constituents to guide Application Development operations. Reviews application support requests (in-person, email, support ticket, etc.) to assist in root cause analysis and identify solutions and enhancements to improve user experience. Contributes to new product development and improvement in product delivery and presentation.
- COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS: Represents Pepperdine and IT in a professional manner when collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Develops and maintains strong partnerships with campus personnel and departments, as well as with external vendors and service providers, to assure current and future operational success.
- PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Takes ownership of assigned projects and plays a proactive role towards the goal of project completion from start to finish. Estimates time and resources required for tasks and projects. Reports status of current projects on a regular basis to supervisor, leadership, and/or stakeholders.
- COLLABORATION: Provides backup support and assistance to other team members. Collaborates with co-workers and University colleagues on departmental, division-wide, and institutional projects. Shares process information and makes informal recommendations on how to improve processes and overall job execution within the team/department.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Attends training sessions, vendor presentations, user group meetings, conferences, and seminars. Engages regularly in individual professional development related activities to remain current with industry technology trends and work processes.
- COMMITTEES AND BEYOND JOB DUTIES: Volunteers to undertake tasks that stretch the employee's capabilities. Serves on various committees within the Information Technology division. Participates in external University committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
- UNIVERSITY MISSION: Understands and supports the Christian mission of the University. Upholds the University mission through team, location, atmosphere, and work performed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in programming/systems or computer science, specialized training, certification, or equivalent work experience.
- At least one (1) year of web programming/systems analysis experience; advanced programming techniques and application design; and knowledge of distributed systems architecture, middleware, or object-oriented analysis and design.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.

- Technical background with a basic understanding of complex systems.
- Basic understanding of relational databases.
- Technical project management experience.
- Experience with software development life cycle of enterprise-level applications as well as Change Management, Release Management, and Source Code Configuration Control.
- Demonstrates experience developing Microsoft.Net web applications in C#; SQL Server Administration; Windows Server Administration experience; Mobile Development Experience; Full Stack Developer.
- Experience working in an academic environment.
- Visual Studio, Microsoft SQL Server, Version Control (Git or Azure DevOps).

- Expected Pay Range: $70,304 - $76,000 per year.
