Job Description
Freebird is looking for an experienced International Expansion Advisor who has successfully scaled a U.S.-based eCommerce brand into major international markets.
We are preparing to launch Canada, the UK, and Australia across both Amazon and DTC, and are looking for someone who has done this before at scale and can guide our team through the right structure, strategy, and execution.
This is a consultant, advisory, or fractional opportunity for someone who enjoys helping fast-growing companies expand globally while working closely with senior leadership.
The engagement is part-time (5 to 10 hours per week) and expected to last 3 to 6 months.
You will work directly with our CEO, Chief of Staff, Finance, Operations, Amazon, and eCommerce teams to design and guide the international rollout.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience launching and scaling global operations for a consumer brand selling physical products manufactured in Asia.
What You’ll Help Us Do
Design and guide the international expansion strategy for Freebird, including:
Market Launch Strategy
- Define the optimal rollout strategy for Canada, UK, and Australia
- Help determine sequencing and timelines for launches
- Guide the transition from cross-border fulfillment to local fulfillment
Legal, Tax & Entity Structure
- Advise on optimal entity structure for international markets
- Guide VAT/GST registration strategy
- Help ensure compliance with international tax obligations
- Coordinate with internal finance team and tax advisors
Importation & Logistics
- Define importer-of-record strategy
- Advise on customs, duties, and tariff considerations
- Guide China → Amazon FBA and China → customer shipping flows
- Help evaluate when to move to in-market 3PL fulfillment
- Advise on packaging, compliance, and importation requirements
Amazon Global Expansion
- Advise on best practices for launching Amazon marketplaces internationally
- Help navigate FBA import requirements and compliance
- Guide marketplace setup for Canada, UK, and Australia
DTC International Strategy
- Advise on cross-border Shopify shipping strategy
- Evaluate international carriers and duty solutions
- Help design a scalable DTC international fulfillment model
Operational Playbook
- Help create a clear international expansion blueprint
- Identify risks and common pitfalls
- Provide ongoing guidance as our team executes the rollout
Job Requirements
- We are looking for someone who has personally led or played a key role in international expansion for a fast-growing eCommerce brand.
- Ideal background includes:
- Experience scaling a U.S.-based DTC brand internationally
- Deep familiarity with Amazon global marketplaces
- Experience with Shopify cross-border commerce
- Experience importing products from China into global markets
- Strong understanding of VAT, GST, customs, and international logistics
- Experience launching in Canada, UK, and Australia
- Background in consumer products / hardware / CPG / personal care preferred
- Bonus experience:
