Role Description
The Interface Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex healthcare data interfaces between the TruBridge platform and external reference laboratory systems. This role ensures accurate, secure, and reliable exchange of laboratory data using HL7 v2 standards while supporting interoperability, regulatory compliance, and clinical workflows. The Interface Engineer collaborates with internal technical teams, clinical laboratory stakeholders, and external vendors to successfully deliver interface implementations and support ongoing operations.
Qualifications
- Experience designing and supporting healthcare interfaces using HL7 v2 messaging standards.
- Strong understanding of laboratory workflows and LIS/EHR integrations.
- Experience mapping healthcare coding standards including LOINC and SNOMED-CT.
- Experience troubleshooting healthcare interface message issues and data discrepancies.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams including clinical staff, IT teams, and external vendors.
Requirements
- Design, implement, and maintain complex bidirectional HL7 v2 interfaces between the TruBridge platform and reference laboratory vendors including LabCorp, Quest Diagnostics, ARUP Laboratories, Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL), and American Esoteric Laboratories (AEL).
- Configure and maintain interface mappings including normalization of reference laboratory test codes, LOINC, SNOMED-CT, and performing laboratory identifiers to local LIS dictionaries.
- Coordinate connectivity testing, certification processes, and onboarding activities with laboratory IT teams and external vendors.
- Troubleshoot and resolve implementation issues related to reference laboratory integrations including message failures, duplicate results, and delayed reporting.
- Perform unit, integration, and end-to-end interface testing and assist in developing test plans.
- Collaborate with clinical laboratory staff, IT teams, and vendor partners to gather requirements and define laboratory workflow processes.
- Provide go-live support and assist with post-implementation stabilization.
- Document interface specifications, mapping tables, configuration details, and support procedures for knowledge transfer and regulatory audits.
- Ensure all interface implementations comply with HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, and ONC interoperability requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
