Job Description
Role Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AutoCAD Designer to join our Systems Layout & Structural Engineering Team. This senior technical role focuses on producing advanced 2D AutoCAD deliverables for complex steel structures, automation systems, and large-scale robotics projects. The ideal candidate brings deep AutoCAD expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead design efforts across multidisciplinary teams. This position also plays a key role in mentoring junior designers, influencing CAD standards, and driving quality and consistency across the organization.
What you'll do
- Lead the creation, modification, and management of highly complex 2D AutoCAD drawings for steel structures, automation systems, and robotic layouts.
- Coordinate closely with the 3D Revit Team to ensure 2D deliverables accurately reflect 3D models, spatial constraints, and structural requirements.
- Interpret engineering specifications, architectural plans, and technical documents to produce complete and accurate design packages.
- Own and enforce CAD standards, quality control processes, and best practices across the design team.
- Review, validate, and approve drawings created by junior designers to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
- Identify design risks early, propose solutions, and support technical decision making for large-scale projects.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with minimal supervision, ensuring on-time delivery of all drawing packages.
- Mentor and train junior Designers in CAD techniques, standards, workflows, and project execution.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of CAD templates, libraries, automation tools, and drafting workflows.
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry codes, internal standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, manufacturing, installation teams, and external partners to support project success from concept through installation.
- Deliver drawing packages that reduce field rework, installation delays, and engineering change orders.
- Maintain drawing accuracy and consistency that supports efficient fabrication and installation.
- Improve team productivity by contributing to CAD standards, reusable content, and workflow optimization.
- Serve as a technical authority for 2D structural and automation layout design, influencing long-term CAD strategy, including programming language (AutoLISP; PYTHON) trends and improvements for automated creation of 2D geometry.
- Ensure project deliverables meet or exceed quality benchmarks, contributing to customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of AutoCAD design experience in engineering, architecture, manufacturing, or related fields.
- Expert level proficiency in 2D AutoCAD with the ability to produce complex, highly detailed drawings.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, steel structures, and construction/manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to lead design efforts and coordinate with cross-functional teams, including 3D modeling groups.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Experience in material handling, automation systems, or industrial environments is a strong plus.
Requirements
- Up to 20% of travel may be required.
- Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
- The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
Benefits
