Job Description
About GameChanger:
We believe in the life changing impact youth sports have on and off the field. Sports encourage leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and confidence – important life lessons that have the power to propel our youth toward meaningful futures. We recognize that without coaches, parents, and volunteers, organized youth sports could not exist. By building the first and best place to experience the youth sports moments important to our community, we are helping families elevate the next generation through youth sports.
So if you love sports and their community building potential, or building cool products is your sport, GameChanger is the team for you. We are a remote first, dynamic tech company based in New York City, and we are solving some of the biggest challenges in youth sports today.
The Position:
The mission of the App Platform team at GameChanger is to empower teams to maintain mobile apps at scale. App Platform stewards architecture foundations, modularization, dependency management, and several internal frameworks like observability, notifications, and feature toggling. The team's primary customers are the engineering teams that work on the Android and iOS apps. As a Senior Android Engineer on the App Platform team you will influence the engineering organization by guiding projects that improve the developer experience and accelerate teams, with a focus on the Android platform. You will report to Senior Engineering Manager of the App Platform Team.
What You'll Do:
Build foundational and scalable solutions for Android engineers that work on multiple, domain-specific, teams.
Create developer SDKs that modernize our tech stack; promote the use of our SDKs, and lead multi-team migrations. Our Android codebase uses Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, Realm, and Flows/RxJava.
Monitor and improve the performance of our Android tooling, including local development tools and CI/CD systems.
Understand App Platform's users by gathering data from internal tools, participating in the Android guild, and working with directly with Android engineers from other teams.
Help define the team's technical roadmaps.
Contribute to the team's internal developer support on-call rotation.
Who You Are:
Have a deep technical understanding of the Android platform. This understanding includes knowledge of the operating system, first-party API (performance, concurrency, state, UI), dependency management, build configurations and artifacts, compiler, and runtime.
You have 4+ years experience with Android CI/CD systems and tooling (Gradle, GitHub Actions, Firebase App Distribution, and Google Play Console) with experience optimizing build pipelines for developer productivity.
You take ownership of technical planning and production reliability; from designing solutions and anticipating risks, to responding to incidents independently and improving observability to prevent future issues.
You lead cross-team projects, guide collaboration, mentor teammates, guarantee work aligns with goals, and address risks to long-term maintainability.
You integrate multiple perspectives into technical decisions. You incorporate product, business, and operational considerations into your designs, while identifying risks and future scenarios that could affect system health.
You communicate complex technical concepts in technical documentation, ad-hoc communications, and can present these concepts to larger audiences internally.
Perks:
Work remotely throughout the US* or from our well-furnished, modern office in Manhattan, NY.
Unlimited vacation policy.
Paid volunteer opportunities.
