Role Description
This role involves managing a portfolio of tax clients and serving as a lead point of contact for day-to-day advisory and compliance needs.
- Prepare and review business tax returns including 1065s, 1120S, and 1120s, along with related individual returns
- Advise clients on tax matters with a practical, strategy-oriented mindset
- Deliver highly responsive, high-quality service and maintain strong client relationships
- Support and mentor team members through guidance, review, and knowledge sharing
- Conduct tax research, stay current on tax law developments, and communicate findings clearly to clients and team members
- Help improve workflows, documentation, and internal processes to drive efficiency across the tax function
- Collaborate in a fully remote environment while maintaining strong availability during Central Time business hours
Qualifications
- 5+ years of tax and/or accounting experience
- At least 1 year of experience as a Tax Manager in a regional CPA firm or small accounting firm
- Strong hands-on experience with 1065s, 1120S, 1120s, and individual returns
- Experience with Schedule E and Schedule C returns
- Experience directly managing clients and interacting with staff
- Prior remote work experience required
- Bachelors or associates degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field
- CPA or EA is welcome, but not required
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and client-service mindset
- Experience with ProConnect, QuickBooks, and/or Xero is preferred
- Experience with small business clients, real estate, multi-state tax, partnerships, and S-Corps is strongly preferred
- Experience with California, Oregon, New York, and/or New Jersey state tax matters is a plus
- Candidates coming directly from Big 4 environments are not preferred unless they also have small or mid-sized firm experience
