Role Description
As our Virtual Patient Companion onsite in Phoenix AZ, you will continually monitor high-risk patients across multiple facilities, ensuring their safety and care through live non-recorded video streaming. You may also travel to provide expertise.
- Accurately recognize and respond to patient distress, notifying staff of safety concerns and escalating communications as necessary.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, colleagues, and bedside staff, utilizing video observation platforms and telecommunication tools according to established protocols.
- Focus on improving department metrics and embodying core values.
- Provide continuous virtual monitoring for high-risk patients across multiple facilities, ensuring their ongoing safety and well-being.
- Demonstrate exceptional observational skills and effective communication with interdisciplinary teams.
- Adhere to established protocols and exemplify core values in providing compassionate and vigilant care.
- Observe assigned patients by monitoring non-recorded streaming video equipment linked to a live feed from a camera situated in the patient’s room or other hospital-specific video observation platforms.
- Maintain continuous surveillance of assigned patients/rooms to ensure appropriate interaction with the care environment; initiate communication with patients as appropriate.
- Communicate with bedside staff in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
- Report camera disruption or obstructions to the patient care team in a timely manner.
- Identify changes in the patient’s behavior and/or condition in accordance with established guidelines.
- Notify care staff of observed changes in patient behavior, including:
- Increased agitation
- Interacting inappropriately with care tools (e.g. IV pumps, lines, drains or airways)
- Attempts to leave bed/chair
- Concerns for patient safety
- Identify inappropriate behavior from patient visitors and notify care staff.
- Request corrective action to address obstructed camera view.
- Initiate timely communication with on-site clinical staff to report situations needing immediate and direct intervention to maintain patient safety and comfort.
- Quickly notify bedside care staff of changes using phone, communications system, cell phone, or other communication device as necessary.
- Communicate with the patient/family in the room quickly, professionally, and with courtesy and kindness.
- Communicate any sub-optimal viewing conditions to bedside staff, suggest corrective action, and determine whether a patient can be safely observed.
- Document observations and subsequent actions taken to maintain timely and accurate records.
- Document calls to care providers or use of STAT alarm.
- Document and report adverse events using the IRIS system.
- Document and report system and/or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate party.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Maintain a neat and organized work environment; order, stock, and replenish supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Handle incoming, outgoing, and internal communications with courtesy and professionalism.
- Participate in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities; participate in growth opportunities.
- Comply with CommonSpirit Health’s core values.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3 years experience and 2 years of recent experience in patient care (e.g., CNA, MA, LVN, etc.)
