Job Description
Role Description
A well-established and growing civil litigation firm with offices in Massachusetts and New Hampshire is looking to add an experienced trial attorney to its team. The firm has built its reputation on strong courtroom advocacy, professionalism, and a collaborative culture, and its litigation practice continues to expand.
This position is best suited for a seasoned civil litigator who is comfortable trying cases and taking full ownership of matters from start to finish. Attorneys who have served as New Hampshire prosecutors are especially encouraged to apply, as that background often reflects substantial courtroom time, witness management, and familiarity with New Hampshire courts. This role is not a fit for attorneys whose experience is primarily motion practice, hearings only, or second-chair trial work.
The attorney in this position will act as first-chair trial counsel on civil matters and will independently handle cases in New Hampshire courts. Responsibilities include:
- Acting as lead trial counsel in civil jury and bench trials
- Handling New Hampshire court appearances, hearings, and trials independently
- Managing cases from inception through verdict or settlement
- Conducting voir dire, openings, witness examinations, and closings
- Preparing and arguing dispositive, evidentiary, and trial-related motions
- Preparing witnesses, managing exhibits, and trial presentation
- Communicating directly with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Working collaboratively with firm attorneys and staff while maintaining an independent caseload
Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active New Hampshire law license
- At least five years of litigation experience
- Clear, demonstrable first-chair civil trial experience
- Strong courtroom presence and command of trial procedure
- Ability to travel throughout Central and Northern New Hampshire
- Strong writing, organizational, and advocacy skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote structure
- Applicants without meaningful first-chair civil trial experience should not apply.
Requirements
- Former or current New Hampshire prosecutor
- Significant criminal jury trial experience
- Experience managing high-volume dockets and witnesses under pressure
- Familiarity with New Hampshire judges, court personnel, and local practice
Benefits
- Competitive compensation based on experience
- Fully remote structure, aside from court appearances and trials
- Flexible scheduling
- A trial-focused, professional environment
- Long-term growth and autonomy for the right attorney
Location
Remote, with regular in-person court appearances and trials throughout Central and Northern New Hampshire.
