Role Description

The Deputy Chief of Programs will oversee the day-to-day work and sharpen the vision and output of the following teams: Economic Freedom, Immigration, State Power, Policy, Data, Electoral and Care.

  • Partner closely with the Chief of Programs as a thought-partner and collaborator.
  • Manage at least five direct reports and the members of those teams.
  • Play a leadership role in the implementation of the organization’s base-building program, including digital organizing.
  • Work with Community Change's sister organization, Community Change Action.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Serve as a highly skilled strategist and organizer with experience in strategic analysis and managing multiple programs.
  • Identify opportunities for alignment and bring program areas together under a cohesive strategy.
  • Oversee management of program budgets with support from the Director of Program Compliance and Financial Management.
  • Apply experience and knowledge of the organizing landscape to support and develop teams.
  • Support organizing staff in the development and monitoring of work plans, campaign plans, and events/actions.
  • Manage and train organizing staff, interns, and fellows, ensuring regular supervision and evaluation.
  • Represent the organization in key partnerships and coalitions on local, state, and federal levels as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of demonstrated track record in grassroots movement building.
  • Experience creating and implementing a complex organizing strategy.
  • Networks and understanding of the organizing context in immigrant rights, economic justice, and/or racial equity.
  • Seasoned community organizer and strategist with previous roles in management and program design.
  • Skilled facilitator and trainer with experience leading diverse groups.
  • Experience with staff management and development.
  • Experience overseeing program or campaign budgets.
  • Ability to delegate and communicate hard decisions.
  • Organizational skills to align team members’ individual goals with a larger strategy.
  • Comfort with public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PACs function.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via virtual platforms and in person.
